Understand your account status

When your account's situation needs your attention, a banner appears at the top of the dashboard screens (all of them, except the Statistics screen). There is no dedicated screen: the banner remains visible as long as the situation lasts. On the Dashboard, the Subscription card also summarises the status: “Active”, “In grace period — subscription needs to be reactivated” or “Limited to Free plan”.

The three statuses after a subscription ends

An account on the Pro or Entreprise plan is always active, whatever the number of QR codes or users. The “In grace period” and “Limited to the Free plan” statuses only concern accounts on the Free plan that have more than 3 active QR codes, usually after a Pro or Entreprise subscription has ended (cancellation reaching its term or final payment failure).

The number of users does not come into play. Returning from the Entreprise plan to the Pro plan is not the end of a subscription: it triggers neither a grace period nor a limitation.

Active

No banner. Your account is within the limits of its plan, or it is on the Pro or Entreprise plan: nothing to do.

In grace period (14 days)

Your Pro or Entreprise subscription has just ended and your account exceeds the Free plan quota. The “Your subscription has expired.” banner shows the number of QR codes over quota, the number of days remaining and the end date of the grace period.

For 14 days:

In the list of your QR codes, these QR codes still show as Active during the grace period.

Limited to the Free plan

At the end of the 14 days, if your account still exceeds the quota, it is limited to the Free plan. The banner shows “Your account is limited to the Free plan”, with the number of QR codes over quota:

If your account has 3 active QR codes or fewer when the subscription ends, it moves directly to the Free plan, with no grace period and no limitation.

What changes in all cases when a subscription ends

Whatever the number of QR codes, the end of a Pro or Entreprise subscription:

How to return to a fully active account

There are two options, both during the grace period and once limited to the Free plan. The banner offers two buttons: Reactivate my subscription, which leads to the subscription options, and View details, which opens the Subscription screen.

  1. Reactivate my subscription: take out a Pro or Entreprise subscription again.
  2. Get back under the quota: archive QR codes until only 3 remain active (see Manage your QR codes). The return to the Active status is immediate, and the message “All your QR codes are active again.” confirms it. You remain on the Free plan, however: your API keys and your packs stay frozen, and your custom domain is not provided, as long as you do not take out a Pro or Entreprise subscription.

Two separate cases

Failed payment

If you are still on the Pro or Entreprise plan but a charge has failed, a “Your last payment failed.” banner prompts you to update your payment method. This case triggers neither a grace period nor a limitation: your QR codes keep working while Stripe retries the charge. See Manage your subscription.

Payment not completed at sign-up

If you chose the Pro plan when creating your account without completing the payment, a “You haven't finished upgrading to Pro.” banner offers Resume payment. Your account is simply on the Free plan.

When all QR codes stop: suspended or inactive account

In the two following situations, all the QR codes of the account return a page-not-found error, including the 3 oldest ones.

Suspended account

In the event of a breach of the terms and conditions or a credible report (for example a QR code leading to a phishing attempt), QR Suisse may suspend the account, without prior notice where urgency requires it, and then informs you by email. When you log in, the message “This account has been suspended. Contact QR Suisse support for more information.” is displayed. The suspension is lifted once the issue is resolved or if it proves unfounded. Write to contact@qrsuisse.ch.

Inactive Free account

An account on the Free plan with no login and no scan for 6 months goes through this process:

  1. reminder emails are sent to you during these 6 months;
  2. at the end of this period, you receive an email announcing the deletion, with a recovery link valid for 30 days. The account becomes “pending permanent deletion”: your data remains intact, but your QR codes no longer work and you can no longer log in;
  3. without reactivation within these 30 days, the account, its QR codes and its statistics are permanently deleted.

To recover your account, open the link received by email and click Reactivate my account: your QR codes work again. Any login or any scan of one of your QR codes resets the inactivity counter to zero.

Frequently asked questions

Are my QR codes deleted if my account is limited to the Free plan?

No. The QR codes over quota are paused: they no longer redirect, but their data, their content and their statistics remain intact. They work again as soon as you reactivate a Pro or Entreprise subscription or get back under the quota.

How long does the grace period last?

14 days from the end of the Pro or Entreprise subscription. The banner shows the number of days remaining and the end date.

What does the person scanning see during the grace period, and then once the account is limited?

During the grace period, they see an intermediate page that still displays your destination (or offers your contact card), with a message saying that the account managing this QR code is no longer active. Once the account is limited to the Free plan, the QR codes over quota display a neutral information page, without your destination or your business card data.

How do I know which QR codes remain active if my account is limited?

The 3 oldest active QR codes, by creation date, remain active. In the list of your QR codes, the others have the Paused status. Members who have the “Manager of the subscription” permission also find the details on the Subscription screen.

Can I avoid the grace period by archiving my QR codes straight away?

Yes. If you get back under the Free plan quota before the end of the 14 days, your account becomes fully active again immediately.

None of my QR codes work: what is going on?

First check that they are not archived and, if you printed them with a custom domain, that this domain is still active. If you can no longer log in, your account is suspended or pending deletion for inactivity: in the second case, use the recovery link received by email (valid for 30 days); in the first, write to contact@qrsuisse.ch.
