Organise your QR codes with tags
Tags are used to organise your QR codes: by campaign, by site, by client, by medium… A QR code can have several. They appear in the Tags column of the list of your QR codes and let you filter this list.
Creating and applying tags is reserved for the Pro and Entreprise plans. Tags are only used to organise your dashboard: they do not change the QR code, and the person scanning does not see them.
Apply tags
To several QR codes at once
- In the Your QR codes list, tick the QR codes concerned (up to 100 at once, see Bulk actions and exports).
- Click Tag.
- In the “Search for or create a tag” field, tick the existing tags to add, or type a new name, then choose “+ Create the tag “…””.
- Check the “Changes: …” summary, then click Apply.
If a tag is only carried by part of the selection, it appears with that count, for example “Trade fair 2026 (3 of 5)”.
A message summarises the result: the number of QR codes updated, those that already had these tags, and those that could not be changed because they already carry 10 tags.
To a single QR code
On the QR code's page, in the Tags section, click Edit tags, then proceed in the same way.
The rules to know
- 40 characters at most per tag.
- 10 tags at most per QR code.
- 200 tags at most per account. Beyond that, delete some from Manage tags to create others.
- Two tags cannot have the same name, regardless of upper/lower case and accents: “Genève” and “geneve” are the same tag. If you type a name that already exists, the existing tag is offered to you. If you rename a tag with the name of another, the message “This tag already exists.” appears.
- Do not put personal data in them (a person's name, phone number or email). Tags appear, among other places, in the CSV export of the list.
Filter the list by tag
In the Your QR codes list, open the Tags filter, then tick one or more tags. If you tick at least two, choose under “Show QR codes that have”:
- at least one of these tags: a QR code that carries one of them is enough;
- all of these tags: only QR codes that carry all of them are shown.
The “Untagged” option adds the QR codes that have none. Ticked on its own, it shows only these QR codes, so you can spot those still to be organised.
Manage the account's tags
The Manage tags link opens the Tags screen. It lists all the tags of the account, with, for each one, the number of QR codes that carry it. This number only counts the QR codes you can see; clicking it opens the list filtered on this tag.
- Rename: the new name applies wherever the tag is used.
- Delete: the tag is removed from all the QR codes that carry it. The QR codes themselves are not changed. A confirmation shows how many QR codes are concerned.
Renaming and deleting are reserved for members who have the Manager of the account's QR codes permission (or Administrator). Other members see the list of tags, without these buttons.
If your account returns to the Free plan
Your tags are not deleted. The Tags screen still shows them, and members who have the “Manager of the account's QR codes” permission can still rename or delete them. However, you can no longer create or apply any, and the tag filter is no longer available, until you take out a Pro or Entreprise subscription again.
Frequently asked questions
How many tags can a QR code carry?
10 at most. An account can have 200 tags in total, of 40 characters at most each.
Who can create and apply tags?
On the Pro and Entreprise plans, any member who can manage a QR code can apply tags to it: their own QR codes with “Manager of my QR codes”, all the account's QR codes with “Manager of the account's QR codes”, those created via the API with “Manager of QR codes created via the API”. Renaming or deleting a tag for the whole account is reserved for “Manager of the account's QR codes”.
Does the person scanning see my tags?
No. Tags are only used to organise your QR codes in your dashboard. They change neither the image nor the destination of the QR code.
Does deleting a tag delete the QR codes that carry it?
No. The tag is simply removed from these QR codes; they keep working as before.
Why are “Genève” and “geneve” refused as two different tags?
Because the name comparison ignores both upper/lower case and accents. This avoids having two almost identical tags for the same purpose.
How do I find the QR codes that do not have a tag yet?
In the list's Tags filter, tick “Untagged”.
